turbo 96 pickup

Question turbo 96 pickup

okay lookin for some info ... stock 96 vortec motor am going to turbo charge it . not real familiar with the injection on these or "tuning the computer" want to use maybe a 38 waste gate and maybe a pt 70 turbo or maybe a s400 dont want to make a racer just use it for towing ... any input??

The problem you have your truck actually has a chip that would need to be replaced to change perameters. Also from what I remember hearing TBI's don't do to well past 8psi, but that maybe due to the computer rather then the fuel system mechanically itself.

I would look into piggybacking a accell dfi, holley comander, or FAST computer to run the engine. Then your stock computer will be there for the guages and the tranny.

Or do a LS swap the computers are good up to 20 psi, and more if you get the right supporting parts.

The 96 isn't TBI it's the CPFI.

You could do the 411 PCM swap Google it.

You'll mostly need larger injectors which and only option is the marine intake or ramjet350.

And HOG knows these motors as well!


But for the price of all that and the turbo just swap in a LQ4 6.0L and 4l80. Add a cam, LT, and tune and have plenty of towing power. Then you could turbo it later if thats not enough.
