Default Towing Question

I don't ever Tow at all, but this coming weekend I'm driving up to Tennesse to the Rod Run out there. I'm gonna be towing my friends TA up there on a trailer. Its about 900 miles each way. My truck is a 08 TX Edition CCSB 5.3 4L60E almost stock aside from a K&N CAI, Stock exhaust to SI/DO Magnaflow Mufflers & tips, & a Superchips Cortex Programmer. I usually keep my programmer on the 87 setting & run 87 octane in it or on a rare occassion ill put it on the (93)Performance setting & run 93 octane, but on both of those settings it says not to Tow. I also have a Tow setting, so my question is..........while I'm Towing my buddies car should I actually use the Tow setting on the programmer or just set everything back to STOCK & use the button on my blinker for the Tow mode or BOTH? By the way, both the engine & tranny have about 72,000 miles of HARD ABUSE! No Towing but everyday Nascar Truck Racing PRACTICE ;-)

You'll be fine in tow haul mode, just don't use cruise control in the hills or if it doesn't want to hold a gear, u many have to keep in 3rd if it doesn't hold speed good

So use the tow haul mode on the programmer huh? My buddy says that while going up or down hills use the Tow button on the gear shifter to keep it out of Overdrive?

Yes! You can leave it in tow haul mode on shifter the whole time ur pulling. I usually leave mine in overdrive till it downshifts then I drop down the shifter to hold it there. This is depending on how steep the hill is!

it don't take but a few minutes to put it in TOW mode on your programmer. put 91 octane in it and try it. if you dont like it, put it back stock. won't hurt nothing. my buddy pulled a '68 truck on a car trailer with a '02 5.3L with the 87 performance mode using tow/haul and it worked well. and that was going up and down the hills of mississippi!
