Technically speaking, you won't be legal without trailer brakes for that kinda weight. You can probably slip by on this run but you better make sure you've got turn signals and working brake lights to keep the popo off your back.

-I'd take it slow if you are not going to have electric brakes for the trailer.
-I'd tow in 3rd, and shift into OD only if you know you have like 10 miles of flat terrain coming up.
-Perhaps your buddy can give you advice on how to position the car on the trailer.
