Default Towing with 5.3 and hitch help

Im gonna be gettin a trailor and need some help with making things work.

ok my other truck thats doing the towing is a 2004 Chevy 4x4 Silverado with 3.73 gears and the 5.3 and a few bolt ons so i think it should pull my trailblazer ss fine.

now the truck that is going to be getting towed is my 2006 trailblazer ss

1) the trailblazer is about 4500-4700 pounds, the trailor im guessing (its my cousins) is like 1200 pounds so lets say 6000 pounds total.
2) the truck has a 4 inch lift so i think that i need a ball that sits aoout 2 inches lower so when i load the truck the trailor will be even not facing upwards like it would be if i used a hitch that went straight out. or should i get a 4 inch drop down hitch. I just dont want to get to much of a drop down hitch so if the truck squats in the back it will make the trailor face downward.
3) so would this kind of hitch mount be the one i would need (the silverado came with a traior hitch allready i just need the bracket that goes to the trailor that has the ball on it) seeing i need at least a 6000 pound hitch holder i should get one rated for at least 10000 pounds or what???? just want to be on the safe side

sounds like a 10000 rated hitch holder would be plenty but others will chime in to aid you whole situation...are you tryin to turn your SS into a serious strip machine? just wondering why its going to be a trailor made vehicle...

First of all you will need at least a 4" drop hitch, you should not be having a rear squat problem if the TB is loaded correctly. The trailer should be level when the trailer and load is attached to the truck. The max tongue weight (mtw) is usually 500-1200 lbs depends on the class rating, but try to shoot for 100 lbs less than the mtw for the actually towing. You might be thinking wtf, how do I know what that kind of weight looks like on the truck, well to answer that you will need to put that much weight in the bed of the truck and measure from the ground to the bumper. The factory hitch is a class IV hitch rated for 8,000 lbs, and that is what aftermarket hitches are rated for. You could look into a Class V hitch which are rated for 10,000 lbs but they are more expensive and are overkill on 1/2 ton trucks.

I have a class 5 hitch on my truck but if I need to pull over 7,000 the gooseneck flat bed will be used, I just don't like towing a lot of weight on a drag type trailer.

Do you have stock diameter tires? Just remember that bigger tires make your effective gear ratio less favorable. For example, if your tires are 10% larger than stock (i.e. 33" vs. 30"), then your gearing will effectively be 10% less (i.e. 3.42 instead of 3.73) and your tow rating will be likewise affected.

I didn tsay anything about recommended. I said comfortably. Yah off course it will pull it. Just take alot more throttle, heat, wear, and more. If money isnt a big deal you might want to look into a 4.10 swap. With 33" tires I cant see you loosing any MPG.

That then would actually put your pulling comfort at stock. 3.73 with a 30" tire.
