Default Tire suggestions Wider than Stock

I have been running 285/60/16 BFG's and GTll's for the last three sets of tires on Eagle 121 16x8 wheels and they always go bald in the center really fast. I love the wide look, but they just dont last. What other 16" tires would be wider than stock but not quite as wide. Thought about going with an all terrain or something but not sure how that would look on a 2wd. Any suggestions?

"bald in the center" - is that just the rears or the fronts as well? Are your pressures correct? Do you abuse the rear tires?

I have BFG KDW2 on front and rear. 265/50/20 and 295/45/20 - they last 70K miles because I don't abuse the tires and I keep my pressures correct. I'm on my third set of them.

Well, I usually get about 50,000 out of a set, but by half of that the center is gone. I had the Goodyears first, they did it so I switched to the BFG's, which I like better, but they all did the same. I ran about 40 psi (rated for 44)on the first set for good mileage on the interstate, saw the wear and, dropped to 26-27 psi on the second set thinking they had too much, same thing. I just ran the Bfg's at about 32psi. Front and rear all do the same. The center about a 3 inch strip goes bald and the outside edges looks brand new. I'm pretty easy on the tires untill they are about gone then I guess the tires are too wide for the rims.

I rode in a grand sport the other day, now thats a car!

You are using the recommended minimum width wheel for that tire - so you are good with that.

Running 32psi is good, too. Since you say that both the front and rear are wearing out, I have to ask:

1) are you rotating the tires regularly?
2) how often to you smoke 'em?

I rotated them fairly regular, probably every 8k, and when I get new tires, to be honest I don't spin 'em much at all, not nearly as much as I'd like too. Plenty of rolling punches though not much spinning there. Once I see the tires about shot then its Katie bar the door. Gotta have a little fun.

Wish I could find some pictures of 2wd trucks on 16" wheels with different size tires.
