Tighten up my steering
#1
I wanna tighten up my steering on my '04 Sierra RCSB to much like my '99 T/A.
I've searched for some threads on this but doesnt seem to be really any conversation on the matter. Any ideas? Is as simple at a rack and pinion swap from a f-body? or is there kits out there?
Thanks.

yeah, a quicker ratio would be awesome. I cant really find anyone that has done such a swap or any info. From what research I have done, it looks like I might be able to get an f-body rack, fab up some stuff and it will work, but, this could be a disaster waiting to happen. I'm gonna try anyways.

After spending some time last night looking on the internets I ran across some data on steering ratios. What I found is: the Trans AM with the WS6 package has a steering ratio of 14.4 where as my truck has a ratio of 14.2 I dont get it, if the truck as a better ratio then why does it not turn as well? Is it just the size of the steering wheel that is the difference?

The lower the number numerically the more movement you get at the tires with less movement of the steering wheel.
If you want to yours feel like it has quick ratio steering go drive Chevy Equinox in the 05-08 range. Those things take almost 3 3/4 turns lock to lock. Jump in one of those and try to pull into a parking hole after driving any other vehicle and you will nearly wipe out the car parked next to you.
What about the Silverado SS? For some reason I think its going to be the reciprocating ball type steering box instead of rack and pinion.
Also alignment specs can make your truck drive like less of a truck and more of a performance truck. The more caster you have the more return to center and the better it will hold a straight line. Think how squirrely a shopping cart is vs a really raked out chopper. A little negative camber will also make it have a little less understeer.
