Default Thump sound passenger front wheel

I rode in my son's 2006 Silverado ext. 1500 this weekend and noticed a 'thump' when he turned either right or left coming from the front passenger wheel. It was also pulling a bit to the right. He jerked the wheel hard 2 or 3 times to the left and the pulling to the right stopped. He has 22's with brand new 305/40's. Could this be a ball joint or bushing issue? I will not be able to take off the wheel and inspect for a couple of weeks. I know it is not the steering shaft noise.
