Default Thinking of getting an '06 chevy need some help!!

I am about to upgrade from my '99 5.3 to an '06 5.3 or 6.0. I dont know what is out there to upgrade it with to improve the HP and gas consumption (which isnt the bigest deal but would be nice to improve).

On my '99 i have upgraded my exhaust, intake & filter, thermostat, and have a hypertech programmer.

Are there any upgrades like those or better that i can use? or any better suggestions?

Thanks

if you can afford it then do it. put all the stock stuff back on the 99. sell what won't work on the 06 and then put what does work on the 06. you'll be happy.

If you can find a 06 6.0L get it I love my VMax it's worth the extra $$$.

As said above return your truck back to stock and sell it or trade it in.

the only thing I wouldnt worry about taking with you off the '99 would be the hypercrap... the exhaust, intake and t-stat should swap if you are getting the same type of truck (rcsb, ecsb etc etc) but even still, you can get a thermostat for less than 50 bucks so I wouldnt worry about that either. your intake and exhaust should go on the new truck though IMO... and like was said, try to get the 6.0, they are NICE trucks.

I'm guessing you don't need a 4x4 in Texas. If not, you could get a VMax 6.0 4x2 w/373's and fuel econonmy would prolly be reasonable. Mine's a 4x4 and the DIC says I'm at 14.7mpg~avg. You'll love the HP/TQ, even off the lot it pulls damn hard. I think you can get that set up in an ECSB or ECLB and they offer factory 20's w/373's.

What kind of programers do they have out now for the new trucks. Back when i was doing all to work to my '99, hypertech was one of the better hand helds but i have been out of the seen for a few years. Also, thanks for the replies. I am not going to pull off the exhaust that i have on my '99 because its just not worth the time or effort. What are some good exhaust setups out now also: either cat back or muffler?

Suffice to say that technology today allows custom tunes to adress more aspects of engine/transmission operation and can gain more performance and economy. Their also readily available all over the forums. A quick few are Nelson, Westers and PCM4Less but there are many others. A search will get your mind spinning as there are so many options.

Exhaust options are everywhere, too. You can simply buy a bolt-on cat-back system for <$500.00 and have it together in a few hours! Depending on your performance aim, there are also alot of options by going custom...add a decent air intake and you'll be psyched.

The comment about 18.7mpg on his 4x2 is amazing! That kind of economy from a killer truck..seriously consider a 4x2 VMax!

One more advisement; don't by the OnStar option but do get the XM radio.

Go with HP tuners on tuning or order a custom tune from Nelson or Wait 4 me. Go full exhaust instead of catback you'll be pleased with the performance and sound. As far as what type of Exhaust go MagnaFlow, Hooker AREO CHAMBER, Corsa. Just don't put glasspacks on it ..
