Default tachometer not reading correct

2006 Silverado 1500. The factory tach is not reading correct. speedometer is spot on but, tach is showing 500 RPM less at 70 MPH than what it should. What could be the problem?

Stepper motor issues are very popular in those clusters. Could be that.
