Default Swapping gauge cluster

I'm looking into swapping out my gauge cluster for one with the trans temp gauge. I know it's a direct swap, but my truck has the steering wheel controls for the DIC, will it still work if I get a gauge cluster from a vehicle that didn't come with that option? Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

No, it won't work properly unless the new cluster is programmed to your truck by VIN, which controls the cluster's address mapping. All sorts of stuff will be wacky otherwise, like when you hit the Trip button on the wheel you might see the ABS light come on.

Your correct, got the new cluster today. Everything seems to be working fine as far as the gauge its self, the problem is the steering wheel controls no longer work. I guess it's a trip to the stealership and see what they can do or do you know of a better way?

I would like to say anyone with a Tech II can do it, but I've seen it more reliably performed by speedometer service shops who can plug in the Delphi programmer directly.

I recommend this guy, he and his wife do good work:
