Default Speedometers GONE?

Well I got on it on the way home and my speedometer went to 10mph and stopped there. When I slowed down it dropped to 0mph and hasnt moved. My fathernlaws truck did this but he got a recall. His truck is a 2004 model. How can I fix this? Do I need a new cluster?

I have about 55000 miles on mine. I searched on here to find out if they are covered but it says 2003-2004 models.

I got a letter in the mail saying it was covered until 70k, but mine is an 03.

Talk to your dealer about it and they'll probably warranty it, if thats the problem.

You don't have a check engine light on also, do you??

this problem has been addressed by GM. I recently had a similar problem with my 04 Z71 and replaced the gauge cluster at my local dealership. Just tell them you got a letter in the mail and its a TSB, they should take care of you. Good luck!

My check engine isnt on. Should I put my stock tune back in before I go to the dealership?

I got away with keeping my tune in. If the truck can run well without the tune, then you could remove it but I dont think it is necessary.

You may be fortunate enough to fall under a Goodwill warranty with your local dealer my friend. Go to your local GM dealer and just ask the Service Manager if they could help you out and Goodwill it. I'd say here within 2 years it'll be a warranty extension on your model too....but for now you may enlist the help of GM...who knows?

But if you want to fix it, take it out and take the cluster apart and get the numbers from the stepper motors which drive your guages. Go to your local electric store like State Electric or Circuit City and buy new steppers. They cost like $5 at the most. Then just re-install em....it's not hard.

I had a guy on Ebay rebuild mine and convert it over to the SS cluster with the trans temp guage. He also replaces all of the lights and bulbs. He uses all OEM parts and the stepper motors are a better quality than whats in there from the factory. It cost about $220.
