slugish 04 after almost running out of gas
#1
So this is how my ****y day got ****ier. First I lose all my damn moneys as the casino and on my way back get caught in 3 hours of traffic while I watch my fuel on E. Finaly get out of traffic and pull into a station. I put about 5 gallons in. I was pissed already the fact that the pump took 15 minutes to pump 5 gallons made it worse. I then left the station in a hurry! I get about 1 mile or so down the road and I try to give it gas and it feel slugish, so I floor it and It ran good a couple seconds then started to shake a little, so I slowed down and pulled over. It then started to idle very rough so I turned it off. I looked the truck over only to find no leaks or anything visably wrong with it. I had oil pressure, it wasnt overheating so I continued to drive it home(45 miles). I stop at a auto-zone and ask them to read my codes. The only code I had was 0171 and its running to lean. Now I'm thinking the tank got so low all the **** in the bottom got stirred up and clogged the fuel filter? I bought lucas fuel system cleaner and put it in and filled the tank up. Ok so they tell me that the fuel filter is in the tank on the 04's($400+). I can try ebay. What other problems might it be? Is it the injectors? How can I determine if its if its the pump/filter or the injectors? Is it ok to drive it untill I get it fixed? Could someone help? Thanks, Rob

Update:
I ran it about 10-20 miles after I put the cleaner in. It got a little beter but still idles like **** sometimes and is still sluggish when I accellerate slowly and does beter when I floor it but still doesnt sound right.

Maybe you sucked water off the bottom of the fuel tank at the pump. You said it took 15 minutes to pump 5 gallons, maybe you got osmething from the gas station tank.
I believe you have to drop the tank to get to the fuel pump. Or you may be able to pull the fuel line where it comes into the rail and see what's coming out there.
