Should I buy it and mod it or pass it up?

Yeah, I know its heavy. My goal is to make a decent streetable/drivable truck that has a healthy lope and sets you back in the seat when you hit the gas. I'm not looking to build a 10 second truck (at least not yet anyway). I'm still pondering the possiblities...

Thanks for all the advice so far.

Best advice yet, if your looking for a ex cab truck, if your picky you can find one in 2 or all wheel drive, or even a VHO...

Shoot, if you want something that moves and carries your family buy a trailblazer SS. You can find em all over for sale used or new and they haul *** when built.

the 1500HD is the perfect starting point IMO. That's the truck I'd buy if I were starting. Yes, it weighs more....but by the time you upgrade everything on a 1500 to 1500HD specs (6 liter, 4l80e, 14 bolt), which we all eventually do, you will have wished you just started out with that platform.

i would just buy a 2007 reg cab, say with a 370 already in it, it would be much cheaper than building one.. i know a guy that has one with a built tranny and built rearend...

the 1500HD is nice for the fact that it does come with the 6.0L and also if you pull all the badging off the side's you can get away with hauling big *** travel trailer cause the cops typically dont know the difference between the 1500HD and the 2500HD
