Yes, the dealer can (or someone that works there). But proof of ownership is required, although I'm sure we all know there's a way around that.

Sad to say it's true for the Mexico border towns. Most stolen rides end up in Mexico real quick.
The 99 models did not come with OnStar at the time, although everyone has figured out how to bypass that now too.
VIN cover is a very good idea! A few bucks and greedy DMV employees are all it takes....

Damn that sucks, sorry to hear that man. My truck has had the passenger window broken out but thank God they didn't get anything. I think I'm gonna cover my VIN as well, I have an alarm but you can't be too careful. Did you just cover it with tape?

Sucks to hear about this.

What the heck is going on with all of these trucks being stolen lately? It seems alot of them are from members here. Maybe it's time to pull mine off the net.

the pass key can be bypassed right under the dash. it can also be bypassed in the column. it is easy. like my alarm that bypasses it and the remote start that i used to have. i have seen someone do it on a totaled truck. took him 1 minute to get in and mess with the tumbler an there it went. sorry to hear that/ as for insurance i saved all my reciepts. sent them to the iinsurance company. and paid for what they call--customization. they will cover a stereo but only to $1500.00. they do that on all of it.
