Default Rusty STS Project

The STS is in and running Strrrrrooooonnnnnggggg!

1.) Installed Walbro GSL392 255LPH In-Line pump and weatherproof harness from Racetronix - Very nice harness $50
2.) Installed Delphi Multec II Shorty injectors 44 lb/hr at 58 psi fuel pressure from Racetronix.
3.) Installed Westers tuned PCM - looks very good
4.) Installed Rusty STS Turbo I bought on EBAY with no parts missing. It is a Garrett T60-1 with the .81 A/R turbine manufactured in 11/04 and installed on the original orwer's truck for 5 months at the most. Bit of a challenge but I got it done with a little help from my friends on LS1Tech which rocks. Thanks to all especially Jerry for setting me straight!
5.) Installed Boost and Fuel pressure gauges from DynoTune. The small rectangular ones that I velcroed to my instrument cluster. Looks OK and very easy to see.
6.) Logging software by Auto Enginuity with wideband O2 capability on the way soon.
7.) Had a custom 3" tail pipe side exit installed by a local shop. The bends are not madrill but it is in there and seems to be good.

The install is supposed to take 6 hours but of course it took me 18 hours at a guess with a lot of frigging around and a couple of dumb moves on my part. I hooked up the front to rear harness backwards and got all sorts of weird results until I figured it out. I also tried to make the tap for the oil supply into a major project on its own till Jerry showed me the error of my ways. Nuff said about that I hope.

The turbo was very loud and the low end was weak with just the turbo intalled without the tail pipe and I was a little concerned. I had the tail pipe made up and installed this morning and the other connections welded and what a difference that made. The low end torque is back and the truck is stronger in the low end than before with the Superchips tune and Magnaflow. The sound is really good. It is nice and meaty sounding and loud but not obnoxious. The drone from 1500 - 1900 is gone as is most of the popping sound unless the revs are low. The sound at cruise is very acceptable at least to me and who else do I have to please? The tail pipe is 3" without any muffling device and like I said my truck never sounded better!

I logged a couple of WOT runs and seem to be getting 5-9 * of timing at WOT so I guess I will have room for tuning at WOT. My IATs go from 108 to 165 at WOT and the ambient temp was 63*F. My O2 voltages were B1S1 8.15 and B2S2 8.35 at WOT and the max MAF reading I got was 40.94 lb/min. I am seeing 7 to 8 lbs of boost at WOT with a visit to 9 plus at the shift spike and 63-65 lbs of fule pressure with a visit to 68+ at the shift spike.

I did 3 G-Tech runs. The first in 2WD and then a couple in 4WD for an average 1/4 of 14.58 @ 96.10 mph and a 60' of 2.303. This gave a HP of 310RWHP @ 4850 rpm and 353RWTQ @ 4272 rpm. My stock runs are 16.85 @ 85.3mph and 60" of 2.6 for a 202 RWHP @ 4863 rpm and 235.2 RWTQ @ 4395 rpm.

Now for the fun of it I did a G-Tech run on the return home in a place where I have not done one before.

13.189 @ 114.15mph; 60' @ 2.259; 60mph in 5.896; 497.8RWHP @ 5310 rpm and 526.6 RWTQ @ 4476 rpm

Looked level to me but must have been down hill or the G-Tech did a spaz out! Think I'll test there more often. I like it!

The Rusty STS Project is a success, Ya!

Good job, I especially like that last G-Tech run, 13.1, and now you need to update your sig.

Glad you got her done. I would back down to 5-6 psi until you get IC or Meth. Your probably only getting 5-9 * of timing at WOT because of KR and 165* IAT's will pull alot of timing too.

Thanks Jerry. I can't really turn the boost down because I don't have a boost controller and this is the way it was delivered from STS AFAIK. I will take the waste gate apart and see if I can tell what spring I have and if everything looks alright in there. What kind of IATs are you seeing with the IC you have installed?

quicksilverado - Thanks man and happy to be here if I don't fry some eggs with high IATs.
