Default Run-in with a lightning!!

I saw a lightning on the road tonight, and realized it was a guy I had met at the strip this summer. He was running a 14.6 at 96mph to my 15.1 at 91 .

So I was eager to run him since Ive got the bigger stall and my boost leak fixed.

We ran about 5 times from a 50 roll to about 100mph. We were basically locked at the door handles until about 90, then I would start inching on him!!!!

At one point we slowed to about 20 mph to try to catch a light, but no lights would turn red .

I really wanted to run him from a dig. With the launch of this SS3800 and 4wd, I know I could've put a couple lengths on him out of the hole.

So I think its safe to say I gained 5mph since the race season.

I'm going to have a hard time sleeping tonight!

I had a feeling it was very high because of the time your truck and the lightning are running.

I'm surprised the lightning wasn't faster than mid 14's even at alltitude it still has forced air induction. I thought that squeezed air was the same no matter the starting density, it has little or no effect on turbocharged diesel engines in
big trucks. Jim

Yeah thats what i've heard too. I've never seen a stock lightning run faster than a 14.5 here though. The DA that night at the track was 6500 feet.

Turbo cars on the other hand only run a few tenths slower here than they do at sea level. Compared to almost a full second for everyone else. Maybe its just a turbo thing? I don't know?

Stock 03 cobras run about 13.7 here, I know they run closer to high 12's at sea level, Who knows?

I could be wrong on that alltitude thing.I run 15.3 @ memphis and 14.8 @ south La. that's n/a but a 1/2 sec.is big. I think memphis is about 400' above sea level which isn't much, must be other factors involved.Times are one thing, crossing the stripe first is the main thing.Again just my opinion.Keep racin',Jim

A supercharger just adds a fixed amount of boost to the existing atmospheric pressure. At sea level, my boost gauge reads 7 lbs but at 10,000 ft, it is down to 5.5 lbs. Turbos (and perhaps some centrifugal superchargers) are different, they frequently vent extra boost with a waste gate. This is due to peaky boost curve that they produce. By allowing the boost to come on sooner and venting off the extra boost on the top end, they can improve the boost curve. It also helps with higher altitudes as the waste gate allows boost up to the same internal PSI before venting.

Sometime you've got to wade through a lot of bull, but this is a very educational site. Thanks for clearing that up for me David. The first Detroit diesel I drove was a 318hp 8v71 it had a s/c but still died at alltitude. The second was a 8v71T,same motor with a turbo,it made about 30hp more at sealevel but more like a 100hp more in Denver.I admire smart people.
