Retuned DOD and mileage
#1
A while back I saw a thread where it was mentioned that you can adjust the parameters to make the new DOD engines stay in V4 mode longer. Has anyone had any luck with this? What were the results?

Hey John, I've been fine. I'm out of the Navy now and living in Houston, working on lasers for cutting sheetmetal. I would like to go back up to that part of the country to see family and friends but I don't see it happening anytime soon.
I thought it was actually one of your posts that I read about this. I'm thinking about buying a new truck but I need something that gets decent mileage. I may end up just getting a beater...

Well, that is pretty cool. I think everyone wishes they had a metal cutting laser to play with.
I did post about the DOD tuning a while back but, it was basically wondering about the same thing you are now. I don't think there are many tuning options out for the newer stuff right now and not a ton of the trucks out there either yet.
I know my old RCSB 2wd got 21mpg on the highway when it was pretty much stock. The new ones(2wd) are rated for 22mpg so I'd hope they get at least that. I drove a DOD(AFM) truck a while back and it was VERY tough to keep it in 4 cylinder mode. I imagine tweaking a few of the parameters for the AFM could keep it activated longer on highway driving to get even better mileage, not sure if it would damage the engine or not.
If you're ever up this way let me know.
