Rear end swapping
#1
Not much of a mechanic.
I want to build my rear end up. Been looking at swapping complete. My trucks a 2000 w disc brakes. I want a 10bolt w 4:10 & later pay for a eaton.
What truck should i get a 10bolt w 4:10 to swap right in?
Will i run into driveshaft issues i got a 2 piece steel truck is a ecsb.

You need look at the 99-04 4x4 or the 03-05 AWD Silverado SS
AWD SS had 4.10 for sure with 2 piston disc brakes.
4x4 the 4.10's were an option. Disc came on all 99-04 models.
In 05 they went to drums Except the 05 SS With AWD and the Denali trucks up to 06.

In answer to your gear ratio question, it will be printed on the white sticker in your glove box. Assuming you still have the gears the truck originally came with. The ratio will be a gt or gu something i.e. gt5 = 4:10 iirc

As long as its just a regular 1500 with 6 lugs and not a 1500HD with 8 lugs.
As mentioned RPO Tag is in the Glove Box. These are a few of the more common codes...
GU6 3:42
GT4 3:73
GT5 4:10
G80 Limited slip locking differential
Sounds decent if its in good shape
No. The rear end housing is the same, its the transmission and Transfer case that differ the length of the shaft or 2 piece Vs. 1
