Thumbs up Raced a LT1 Camaro

I was taking my g/f home last night and seen this 93-97 Z28 Camaro. It had what looked like 3in duals and a magnaflow muffler. I threw a rev at him in traffic and he threw one back. Traffic cleared up and we went from a roll 3 times, same results each time. He slowed down to 50mph, we took off right about the same time. I actually pulled him until his front bumper was at my back tire, then he started pulling about 75 and we both let off at 85mph and there was about a carlength between us. I was very surprised that I pulled him for a few seconds!

You have no idea! I'm gonna work my *** off this summer and hopefully get in it before next semester starts.

Here's my list of things to do:
-new bearings
-new rings
-FMS 221/221-.589/.589-113
-stall (2400-2600)
-new head gaskets/bolts
-FMS dyno-tune
-ARP rod bolts
-stock 5.3 heads with LS1 valves/valve job (I'll get better heads next year after the tax return )

I want to go all out, but just can't afford it, unless a miracle happens!

What's a good compression ratio for a daily driver LS1? I'm thinking 11:1-11:3...

Im running 11.3:1. I always have run 93 octane even when I had the 4.8 and it was fine but ever since it started to get 78+ outside temp Im getting audible detonation at like 1800rpms in 1st and thats it. I could just pull some time out but I just started to use a 80%-93 octane/20%-100 octane mix and it took care of it. You have e-fans and mine will be on soon and that will help if not take care of it. I plan on using the 93/100 octane mix even after I do the radiator/e-fans since Im running n20!

11.3:1 = slight detonation, hmmm, guess I'd better go with a 10.9:1-11.1:1. I remember reading somewhere in the internal engine section that one full point of compression is supposed to equal 2xhp. So I figure that uping the compression from 10.1:1 to almost 11.1:1 with ported heads, slightly larger valves should add around 25-35rwhp. Especially with a high lift cam which should add around 20-30rwhp alone. Sorry for rambling, just sharing my thoughts!

With the compression ratio being close to 11.1:1, shouldn't race gas add a little more power at the track? Or would more compression be needed to see any results? I know a few people that claim results using racing fuel with a stock compression of around 9.5:1, but I just don't see it happening...could be wrong though.

Racing fuel would obviously allow for more timing which would make more power. I wouldnt go too crazy with the CR as you could just run more timing when you want to go to the track and run race fuel.

True. The reason I was wanting to know about compression/racing fuel is because I will be getting a custom dyno tune from futral and won't be able to make any adjustments to the tune.

I am running a very mild cam for a LS1 and with a bigger cam say 224/224 or something in that area I doubt I would be getting audiable det. Are you going to run a LS1 inatake. 11:3.1 with a bigger cam than mine should be trouble free. Im pretty sure that the e-fans Im doing will take care of the det Im seeing on just 93 octane. 100 octane is only .15-.20 cents more than 93 ocatane so its not a problem for me since the place I get it has 93 s well. I already had plans to do the fans, radiator, intake before I was getting det. Even though it should fix the probelm Im still going to run the 100/93 mix in case I want to spray!
