I raced a single cab stepside like mine, me being a "wimpy 4.8" as you ls1tech'ers would like to say vs his 5.3
we went from about a 10-15 mph punch and I hung even with him until we hit around 75-80 mph, and even then my headlights were at his rear tire. The truck I raced had a K&N filter and an exhaust......I am bone stock.

Not bad for a "wimpy 4.8"

There really isn't a big power difference between the two. I don't know why everybody is so hard on the 4.8.

It could've been the ~30rwhp from the chrome mirror inserts though. :p

on another good note, completed my 2/4 drop today as well.
I'll post up pics tomorrow... escalade handles will also be in on 8/19 so I can put those on as well. After that, time to chill on the spending so I can knock down some of these fantastic plastic statements

 

hey pewter, what drop did you go with. thinking of which one to go with. as long as i can still tow and haul crap. that is my main concern. also, good deal on the hanging with a 5.3...lol

 

I have read some reviews of the two trucks with superchargers on them, and the 4.8 almost made just as much horsepower as the 5.3 when the mods were done. I just like the 5.3 cause it is a little less effort for everyday driving, but I have driven a 4.8, and well, it felt almost as good as my 5.3. So I also wonder why everyone is so harsh on the smaller motor?

 

I'm a 4.8 owner, so i'm not bashing. Just curious if you know what year truck the 5.3 was. 99's were rated at 270 hp, 2000-2003 are 285.

Are you crazy? I wouldnt be a good race for you with all those mods you have!! But if you want it on video I dont mind getting my *** drug in the name of fun.

For the drop I went 2" Belltech coils, 2" Belltech drop shackles, and Chassis Tech hangars. I like to call it the poor man's drop. I have stock shocks and have yet to bottom out even on some pretty bad dips/holes.

The 5.3 truck I raced was a 2001, I would have been disapointed in my truck if his was a '99; wish I would have had my red truck, it would have ate his ***.

 

You might be surprised, my truck is slow for the mods I have. I would like to race just for fun though, I always enjoy racing other chevys. I finally "borrowed" a camcorder from my roommates and I took it out last night but couldn't find anybody that wanted to race. (rare in Pasadena on Saturday night) Anyway, hit me up when you want to go.
