Default questions on buying a out of state car

ok i'm from arkansas but i'm stationed in maine. my car and truck are-was registered in arkansas. so if i buy a new car in maine do i pay arkansas taxes because i know they will want them. and do i not pay maine taxes. from what i read so far i don't pay maine taxes i pay arkansas taxes. just trying to see if there are any pros out there that can help me out on this one. i think i got ripped when i bought my truck because the sales guy said he couldn't help me out with arkansas tags and i HAD to get maine tags and pay maine taxes. at the same time guy in my shop bought a car and got out of state tags and paid out of state taxes.

From what I remember when I bought my truck, is you have to pay the sales tax in the state you license it in. I do believe that it may very from state to state, so check with the DMV of both states to be sure.

I bought my truck in WY, but was heading to AZ for then next few months. I checked into it and it would have cost me $1500 to plate it in WY, $1800 to plate it in AZ, or I could transfer my current OR plates from my S-10 (still had 1 year and 9 months on a 2 year plate) for $60 (no sales tax in OR ). No brainer as you can see Since I have adresses in all 3 states and and live in all 3 states at some point thought the year, I went with door number 3 .

You pay for the tags, but for the taxes just give them a LES or any other document stating you are not a resident of that state. Works for me
