Put in a 5.3 and now towing is horrible

Have electric fans, Trucool 40k external trans cooler, replaced the thermostat twice. Not sure what he used for the tune. Do need to get it back and have him complete the tune process. If that doesn’t work I may get a blackbear tune and see if that makes a difference. Other than trying another radiator or water pump……

Is the tuner local? I know most of the tuners in Tucson and a bunch in Phoenix... Would only take a quick glance to see if the issue is tune related.
Reading the whole thread, it does not look to be tune related... How did you fill the coolant system? Its not very difficult to get a bubble in the water pump, and then it has to be vacuumed out. In fact, GM recommends a venturi pump to fill it full of coolant to prevent air from getting trapped in the system.

yea 250* ECT and its goin to be pulling about 16* timing on a stock timing tables. so that puts you about 9-10* timing
Do you have the transmission cooling lines running thru the radiator first? then to the trans cooler?
If so, that explains the high trans temps.
but still kinda disturbing about the high ECT.
Id think either you have air in the system like stated above, Bad tune either too much timing or lean, or just some freak wierd problem goin on.
You still running the 28" radiator?

I got the tune from Phil at PRK auto. I think he is pretty new at it. I replaced the cooling system last year and then the heating problems started. With the new engine install the shop took care of filling the coolant. And yes it is 28" Radiator.

in all the times i have had to fill my cooling system, ive never had a air pocket.
I fill it with the top radiator hose, when water starts coming out of it and the radiator ill put the hose on and top off the resivoir.
