Was rolling up my passenger side window this afternoon, heard a loud pop. The window stopped going up, then slid all the way down. I pulled the door panel to push the glass back up. There is a cable of sorts that has a lot of slack. I am thinking that the window motor crapped out and that cable popped off somewhere.

I am fairly mechanically inclined, is this something I can fix myself? And good write ups or how tos?

I am thinking I need this assembly from looking online. Way different than my old F-body cars.

Dorman is trash. Do not buy. Get an OE window regulator

The cable snapped. Remove door panel and then undo some bolts. Very easy to replace.

 

Its a 15 minute job start to finish... Dorman is junk but ive had a dorman regulator in my truck for almost 10 years now without an issue... Havent really seen too many issues with dormans window regulators...

Remove door panels, disconnect motor harness, loosen to 10mm head bolts that hold the regulator to the window, wedge something between wipe strip and window to keep glass from falling... Unbolt front and rear regulator tracks(wanna say 2 bolts on rear and 3 maybe 4 on front) pull regulator/motor assembly from door install new... Guide window into the clamshells that hold it and tighten them down snug roll wondow up to seat them then pull it down some and tighten them up the rest of the way.... A little tip hang regulator in the door with the two tabs that go in the slots... Makes life easier...

 

I'll take a look at it after work today. I currently have two suction cups holding it up for now. I have an extra set of doors, the window motor and regulator is known good in both. I'll take that one apart first to see how. I am having a hard time visualizing how I am going to get that assembly out of the door.

Replacing the window motor is easy. Get the regulator and motor together. And get OEM. My aftermarket replacement was hardly cheaper and lasted only months.

Be careful with the manual door lock. Many times they get loose if you take them out only once.

As wolftrk said it is super easy. the regulator ASM is flexible cables so it folds up and comes out easy. Very quick job.

 

Got it taken care of today. Wasn't a 15 minute job for me, more like 25-30. I pulled a good motor/regulator assembly from a spare door. Works great, nice and smooth. The old motor locked up and pulled the cable out of the lower corner. That was most likely the pop I heard.
