Default Pcv on 2004 4.8?

So I have been doing alot of reading on the Pcv valve. I decided to go out to my truck and check/clean my Pcv valve. That is were my guestion/problem occurs. I don't think I have one on my truck. It's a 2004 with a 4.8. I looked on my dad's truck (2001 5.3) and he has one. When you remove the Pcv valve from the driver side valve cover on his truck there is about a 1/2 inch hole left behind. All I have on my truck is a nipple that goes dirrectly into the aluminum on the valve cover. I'm confused
If i have to I'll post pictures of the setup.

You don't have to post a picture, you have what they call a "fixed oriface" PCV system. There's no moving parts in the newer style PCV valve like the one you have. If anything your dad should upgrade to the style one you have. Yours does help reduce oil consumption slightly.

I just thought you were suppose to be able to remove it. Been thinking about putting on a catch can. I knew there were two different styles of Pcv valves. My dad's truck does us some oil. So it might help to upgrade. Thanks for the help.

Yea, the fixed orifice replaced the old spring and plunger style PCV in an attempt to reduce oil consumption, but I can tell you in my case it didn't work. I got just as much oil in my catch can with the fixed orifice as I did with the old style.

Since you're considering a catch can, here's a little story that may or may not be of interest to you...When I got my AMW catch can (back when the price was a little more reasonable than it is now), I had a wierd annoying whistle noise coming from it. I called AMW and they said "do you have the fixed orifice PCV?"...long story short, I swapped out the fixed orifice PCV for the original style and the noise went away. The catch can works great btw.
