Those deals are cool if you have about $200 to spend. What are you going to do with the computer? What's wrong with the one you have...besides it being SLOOOOW!
I built my computer over a year ago...Asus P4C800 MB, Pentium 4 H/T 2.8GHz processor, Windows XP Pro, ATI Radeon 9800/9800 Pro 256MB(Don't like NVIDIA), dual 512MB sticks of DDR 3200.
But that's because I play some serious games...I'm going to overclock it when I get some time to upgrade the cooling

Chingon brings up a good point. You gotta look at what you are going to be doing. If you are only checking the weather and sending email online, then you don't need much performance. But if you are playing the high end games or doing heavy graphic work, then that is a different story. My PC is a complete POS, that should have expired years ago (well, except the monitor), but it is hard to go and get a new one. Good luck!

Haven't bought from them yet...I probably will when I get into water cooling for my computer
You can piece kits together for around $100. DO NOT buy a pre-fab kit from say, Fry's. What a rip off.

You should see what I just ordered from newegg.com.
I have a system for sale if you're interested.
AMD, 1800+, ABIT board, don't remember which one, but at the time it was thier best one out. 512megs of ram, ATI Radeon 8500 (retail - had a higher clock speed so it's faster), I can stripe 4 20gig hard drives which will make load times insanely fast, Creative Labs SB Live!, network card, 52x cdrom and a plextor burner.
PM me if you're interested. I need the cash to recover from the new system.
On with the advice though .... DO NOT let me repeat ... *DO NOT* ... skimp on a motherboard, that is the most crucial part of the computer and will cause you more problems than you can believe if you buy a cheapo. The memory is in a VERY close 2nd on most crucial parts for stability.
As for vendors, I've had some bad and good luck with the guys on PriceWatch. I've never once had anything bad from newegg.com. I've ordered several systems, including a couple of servers I built for work.
Another good memory I like is OCZ, Crucial, or Corsair. Kingston is good, but it's like the budget brand of the quality memory. Just don't buy no name memory and you should be fine.
BTW ... the machine I'm selling is VERY stable. It runs as a file server right now and does excellent. I only have to reboot it every 5-6 weeks or so. Usually something happens and I have to cut power before it has to reboot.

Do I have to admit publicly what I have?
Just kidding, this is what I'm running. It still works good for me.
AMD K6 w/3DNow!
ASUS Mobo built in USB
250watt power supply
448MB SDRAM (256+128+64)
Windows 2000/Linux Mandrake dual boot
40GB Maxtor (Drive C: )
10GB Western Digital (Drive D: & network drive)
36x CD-ROM
2x4x24 Mitsumi CD burner
Standard floppy
ATI 3D Rage Pro AGP 2x
ATI TV Wonder
Linksys NIC
Basic sound card
Expansion USB card
It's not the fastest thing out there but it still does what I need it to do. I'm probably picking up a laptop in the very near future and when I do, this desktop PC will become a full Linux box running Red Hat.
