Parts prices rant
#1
So I decided to support one of my local dealers today instead of waiting for a week or two for parts to come up from the states. One of the last things I need for my 6.0 is lifters (roughly 120 bucks from one of our fine sponsors). So the first dealer I call quotes me 70 bucks per lifter ($1120 for 16!) so I laughed and hung up. The second one I called also quoted me $70 each but I also gave this guy the 12499225 part number from Scoggin Dickey's web site. He said he had never heard of that part number but if I wanted to order it the price would be just shy of $400. When I laughed and told them they were 120-130 bucks in the states he started into his "support your local dealers" speech so I hung up again. I just don't understand how these guys here in Canada can bend us over for prices when the dollar is above par then bitch about people buying from down south.
/rant lol
Thank you performancetrucks.net for saving me tons of money on parts I would have never bought in the first place had I not found this site lol

Maybe you should of had a salesman at the dealer write up an offer on those lifters! Might have got a better deal if you took the extended warranty and undercoating.
I don't even bother checking prices at Canadian dealers anymore. A few years back I checked local dealer pricing on a LS2/LS7 90mm TB. They wanted $750!
This subject actually came up on the local news last night. Canadian dealers and the auto manufacturers blamed it on the high cost of shipping to Canada. What crap!
The auto manufacturers have barred US dealers from selling parts or new cars to Canadians in order to protect the Canadian dealer pricing. It's OK to sell to a citizen of any other country other than Canada. So much for NAFTA!
Of course our federal and provincial governments have no problem with this as higher prices mean more sales taxes collected.

I bought nearly all of my engine parts from knowledgeable, friendly, honest American aftermarket parts dealers. Cutting out the unneccessary middle man only makes sense and still helps our American friends. Many GM parts are made in Canada but will be much cheaper when ordered from the U.S. We certainly get gouged by our car dealers. I was quoted $240 for intake manifold gaskets at home and paid $120 in Vegas.
I always ask them to ship via post office wherever possible to save money. Do not ship UPS. They will rape you on "brokerage fees". UPS is legalized extortion. When you pay 40 percent on a package's declared value, you will see what I mean.
