Default Oil recommendations.

Well since the truck is still sitting at home with no progress thanks to my lagging insurance, I may as well do an oil change as it just hit the 3k mark.

My question is what do you guys suggest? Synthetic or regular? I always used Mobil 1 synth in the SS, just not sure if it's worth it on the truck or not. Also should I just use the factory recommended weight still?

How about oil filter?

Thanks.

Try the search button, this has been gone over and over a few times within the past 30 days.

For the cliff notes version, mostly it comes down to personal preference. People are not happy that Mobile has changed their formula. A lot of people like Royal Purple and Amsoil, but they are both expensive. Their is no real downside I have heard to using conventional oil as long as you make regular oil changes as one should. Synthetic oil should allow for a longer change interval over conventional. Of the regular off the wal-mart shelf name brand synthetic oils I have seen no reasoning or evidence that one is better than the other.

5w-30 is fine for most engines and climates however some feel they are adding a level of safety by using 10w-30 on high mileage engines.

For oil filters a Wix 51522 is popular, along with an equivalent Napa gold filter (made by Wix). The K&N filter and Amsoil filters are also good choices for a higher cost. Fram filter are generally considered to be crap.

I like K & N oil filters, no real tech data. but they look cool, with there nut on the bottom and the hole through the nut so you can safety wire it. lol I also use Royal Purple oil, but it does cost a lot of money....

I like Penzoil Platnium Full Synthetic and the Big Delco Filter. Good analysis so far
