I have 05 CC w/ 63,000 miles. I have been using Mobil 1 5w/30 and was thinking about going to royal purple. I will probably have the truck for a while and want to keep the motor in the best possible shape. Is there that big of a difference between M1 and RP?

i know recently there was a similar post about this. some guys like Mobil 1. some like RP. i think i remember a few liking Mobil 1 more than RP.

 

If you use a quality oil and filter and change them often then there is no difference.

 

Yes, I agree. Oil preference is simply based on personal opinion. Regular oil change intervals with an API (American Petroleum Institute) approved oil and a quality oil filter is the best thing you can do to your engine, regardless of the oil company you use.

I think any synthetic oil is better. I prefer Amsoil over any others, because of the luck I've had with it in my race motors. I use the Amsoil 0w-30 and do an oil cange once a year. Amsoil claims the oil is good for 35,000 miles or 1 year, but now I only put on a few thousand miles a year.

But even using conventional oil and regular maintenance motors will still last a long time. I have 270,000 on my 1990 k1500

 

unless you use pr everywhere, diff, p/s,oil,trans ect. you will not see any gains. I like valvaline, m1,rp, and amsoil. one old crotchity bastard (lol) does oil tests and says pissoil platnum is the best. But i am with the others. unless you drive the crap out of it do conv oil and a good filter. every 3k/3months

Unsurpassed oxidation stability and higher film strength with the Royal Purple are the main differences. You can if you wish to extend your drain intervals.

 

I've heard nothing but good about Royal Purple, that's what I am switching to next oil change. I have been doing conventional Mobil(GM)oil and an ACDelco oil filter, which I am sure are fine. I have seen some things online about Royal Purple and have been using it in my '86 C-10 for about 2 years now and have decided to put it in my '06. Now I am sure that the tests i've seen done only matter when a vehicle is ran through the ringer, but it's my truck and it's my money
