Default 'nuther exhaust thread

I'm thinking of swapping out the exhaust on my '99 5.3 Sierra, mostly for mpg. I take it pretty easy on my truck, but I drive it A LOT. I just enjoy it. A good tone wouldn't hurt either. I know Pacesetter LTs are the header of choice here. I've also got a buddy (KLRS10 if anyone knows of him) who wants to give away his 3 inch in, dual 2inch (2.25?) out Magnaflow. Since I'm a straight up farmer, the cat is OUT. They tend to light fields on fire. Watched it happen to a Caprice 9C1 driven by a stupid cop. But a few questions. What the F is a bullet? I kinda understand guys are putting them in front of existing mufflers to make it louder. Makes no sense to me. And also, could a cutout be utilized for like an hour? Would it save me any gas? I suck pretty good with HPT still. Thanks.

well thats a tough one let me run this by you first.
Is gas mileage that important to you? or do you want performance and sound?
I ask these questions because long tube headers will run you 400 then to have an exhaust shop weld in the muffler will be a few hundred more.
now you will have perfomance and sound and 1-3mpgs better mileage which will take many many miles to break even

so to recap if you want performance and sound do it!
if your just looking for gas mileage, put the money in the tank not the exhaust

Hmm, that is a good point, but I think I could get get my money out of it in not too long. I can go through 2 tanks a week, and at 1.20 a litre, ($4.50 a gallon, I think), **** adds up fast. I've put on nearly 19000 miles since I bought the truck in May. But ya, having a bit extra jam and a cool sound never hurts.

In my experience, with any performance mod that is suppose to make you gain MPG, I lose it. The sound is too addicting to keep your foot out of it.

to answer your question a bullet is with a bullet shaped casing and their are a few different ones out their i have a dynomax bullet with a turn-down and its very throaty its an acquired taste magnaflow also makes a bullet muffler but its extremely loud and it tends to pop during acceleration its a little tomuch for me but this is only my opinion, do you plan on using a tail pipe or a turn-down, i reccomend a tail-pipe if ou use a bullet trust me that way you wont get tired of it in a week
