well i just changed my oil yesterday, it has been 3 months pretty much, last time i changed it was on halloween, anyways i used mobile 1 5w30 last time, 6 qts of it, anyways when i changed it this time, i drained the oil and poured it back in the bottles i had the oil originally in, well when i poured the old oil back in the bottles, it only equaled about 4 1/2 qts, so did i burn up 1 1/2 qts and is this normal? it never leaked or anything, so i dont know if this is just normal or not, let me know fellas thx, if it matters i got a 01 ECSB 5.3

Probably lost half a quart or better in the oil filter. Any engine will use a little oil if driven hard. Check your PCV valve also, a bad one can cause oil to be sucked into the intake. Later

You have to make sure your motor is hot too, or else it won't all come out. But yes I burn oil, even more so with the cam swap and shifting at 6400. Never keep track but I'm guessing 1 1/2 to 2 quarts between oil changes

Also, with the type of pistons that GM uses, they are a little smaller than they should be when they are cold. That causes a little oil to pass till they get warmed up. It's burns even more if you don't let the engine warm up properly before revving it high.

I guess maybe 1/2 quart is not so bad.
