I'm 99% sure my Tahoe doesn't have ABS but I will look tonight. I know my RCSB doesn't because I've locked them up on dirt roads multiple times.

Gonna replace the pump tonight, pull the fuse and let her eat!

So after replacing the x3 power steering pump me and dantheman1540 decided to go with a 2004 Tahoe steering pump instead of the Yukon Denali. Only major difference from looking at them was the Tahoe pump had one less rear mounting stud on the back. We also choose to pull the ABS fuse to see if that was some how affecting the pump trying to fight the brakes. After the install drove the truck an did a nice smoking burnout with the ABS disabled, low and behold the brakes felt exactly as they should no weird pedal feel from the ABS pulsating and the pump was working fine afterword, no stiff steering or pump noise. I guess beware other Tahoe or Denali owners who have ABS to disable it before doing a good brake standing burnout or else it could damage the power steering pump...

The Yukon Denali normally has traction control, does yours? Or did it?

Yes the Denali has traction control, that was also disabled for every burnout.

You sure about that, I’ve messed with them before and it’s a pain. The button didn’t disable it.

That's a good point. I know in a lot of different auto manufacture vehicles such as Toyota. You can press the "TC off" button and it just slightly lowers the amount of TC interference. To fully disable it you have to do a silly pedal dance.

For his Denali when the button is pressed traction control and stability control lights did come on the dash and info center. Plus you can tell a huge different when driving it. Rather than chirping the 2-3 shift it cuts throttle and bogs with TC on. Kinda funny you can tell the TC doesnt know how to act with the aggressive manual shifts.

I'm by no means a tuner but I have HP tuners. Is there a way I can disable it from there? Or see if the button is shutting it off completely?

The truck came from the factory with AWD and thus the ABS module wants to use BTM (brake torque management) to stop the rear wheels from spinning and transfer power to the front wheels. Since the truck is actually 4WD now the solution should be to disable traction control/ABS during smoke shows. Another solution might be to replace the ABS module with one from a 4WD truck. You should be able to split the mechanical block and the electronics part just like on the old Fbodies.

I think the loss of power steering is a temp effect from BTM going bat **** insane on you.

That's really interesting I didn't think there would be a difference in the ABS control modules. 🤔

If I am not lazy this weekend I might do some research and confirm if those applications use different part numbers. I would suspect the ABS modules to have different firmware and the BMT to be integrated into the ABS module. Purchased another classic body style truck and it has AWD so ill probably 4wd swap that one as well.

The part number for PS pumps between a hydroboost Tahoe and hydroboost Denali are different although they look identical. Not sure about the ABS module though.

Uhhh did you say you got another GMT800??????
