Truck drove fine yesterday. Jumped in this morning, turn the key... think I remember it clicking, maybe not. No start. First thoughts are dead battery. I put it on the trickle charger and go do my thing in the car. Come back in about an hour and the battery is showing charged. Try it again and nothing.
I then notice that after turning on the key the PRNDL display is indicating 2. I pull the neutral safety switch, play with it, some schematics and a meter thinking it's okay after the metering session. Verify I have power to it from the truck side. Decide anyway to just go buy a new one. Install this one, adjust it and the same thing only a little different. After a key on the PRNDL display goes to 2 for a couple seconds and then doesn't underline it's in any position. Of course still no engine crank.
Everything else appears to work fine with key on, just no crank.
Any ideas? I'm fixing to go see if there are any codes.

Could be a battery. Just a few days ago a friend started his car that morning drove to work. Then at lunch the car wouldn't start. Even with it being jumped by another car. The starter would click but would not turn over. It seemed really weird but a new battery and it was fine.

Well maybe the old neutral safety switch did crap out. There was a code for the neutral safety switch out of range. Cleared it and it fired right up and the PRNDL display is reading correct.

Thanks Tim. Me too.
Another AC Delco part failure. I don't know where GM and Delco stand these days but they need better.
I'm so glad I invested in a service manual and tuning software. Umptenth time I've fixed something that would have cost a fortune for someone else to diagnose.
As a side note the new Duralast switch came with the little tool to adjust it just right. Always wondered how that was done. Pretty neat.

glad its running too! I just always put them back the way the old one came off. done countless 4l80's and a few 4l60's and a few allison's that way and never had an issue.

I've aligned 3 or 4 by hand, actually only had to wiggle one around a bit more so yeah it can be done. The little tool was more just a curiosity, wondered how it worked and its pretty neat. Another little tool to keep in the box.
