Default New truck, lots of question!!!

Hello everyone. I new to the site and I've got a lot of questions. I'm not how ever new to Chevy and their trucks, but I did how ever just buy a new one over the weekend and it's my first in about 2 years. I had a Dodge 2500 diesel. My new ride is a 2006 1500 ext. cab Z71. I got everything but leather, onstar, and a nav. system. I have the 5.3L V8. I'm looking to start out by making it run a little better and maybe still get at least the same gas milage. I'd like to start with some flowmasters on there and a new air intake. What would anyone do? Also what about computer retuning. I'm hearing a lot about that, but don't really understand it. Can someone help me. What's the difference in that over buying a chip? And would a chip still work just as good? What's the cost of retuning the computer? What all will it effect. And also does anyone have any good ideas for lifting them? What to look for and what to stay away from?

If anyone can help that would be great. It's not my first 4x4. But it's the first one that I want to do everything right one. All my others were older. My last 4x4 chevy was a 96 suburban with the 5.7L. I did just a simple lift and rims and tires on it. So like I said, this time I want to do it right. Thanks for the help and I look forward to hearing from anyone.

Charlie

First of all,, chip and these trucks dont need to be used in the same sentence... hahha jk man.

Im sure every one on here would suggest Corsa, Magnaflow, Or Borla mufflers over the DroneMaster... but it all depends on what you like.

and there are several good intakes out there..

But more will chime in on the Tuning part,, im still tryin to learn how to do that myself.

Good Luck,, and we need some pictures!!!

We dont "chip" them anymore. These trucks contain fully operational computers called PCM's. A tune is flashed into the PCM much in the manner of flashing the BIOS to a home PC.
You can get a mail order tune like Nelson's, W4M etc or get up on the Dyno for the absolute best fine tuning.
Start with the normal mods first,
Cold air intake
Headers,
Exhaust and then the tune!
