Default Neutral Safety Switch/Position Sensor

96 K1500 5.7 4L60E NP243

Replaced the trans last month. Install went fine except my shift position indicator light wouldn't "synch up". No matter how I adjusted the shift cable or rotated the Position Sensor, the indicator light would not show all the correct positions and sometimes stay in the wrong position when in a different gear. If I bumped the column shifter the indicator light would sometimes show the correct position. The position sensor had been removed several times in the past, and I figured the plastic ring that indexes on the flats of the shift shaft had been wallowed out enough to cause the problem.

With a new AC Delco position sensor, filing off any burrs or belling of the shift shaft, and with the trans in neutral the, new sensor went on fine.

No matter how much I rotate the sensor or adjust the cable all I can get on the indicator light is N, D, and 1. But P, R, 3, and 2 position won't light. When I take it out of Park the indicator light briefly flashes at the neutral position.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks

I mis-wired my new neutral switch harnesses and the indicators were very wacky. Maybe you need new harnesses, they are very easy to damage the first time it's removed.

I'm beginning to wonder if it's a wiring issue too. With the original sensor my indicator light just wouldn't always be in the right position, and a couple positions wouldn't light up at all. Now it's correct in three of the positions, but won't light up in the other 4 positions. As mentioned, the indicator light briefly flashes in neutral position as a I move the column lever out of park.

I put my test light on the 7 pin connector thinking that was the correct connector (7 pins, 7 positions, right?) but the connector diagrams I found online say it's the 4 pin connector that runs the indicator light. I'm going to test the 4 pin connector and see if I get various outputs from that as I move the lever.

You wouldn't happen to have a part number/source for that wiring harness by any chance, would you?

Thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to find the numbers!

I'm not yet sure it's a wire, but looking that way..........sheesh.
