Default Need help removing Water pump

How do you get the nut that holds on the fan turning without spinning the water pump? When I use a cresent wrench to turn the nut, the whole pump turns with it! Stupid lack of electric fans.

You have to find a way to put more tension on the pulley and using a dead blow hammer to smack the wrench should help loosen it.

I used a crow bar with the curved end slightly sharpened to help it bite on the inside of the pulley to get mine off. Just be careful not to pry against anything plastic like the plastic idler pulley that is near.

Here's what Cody and I did:
We used his BIG *** Crescent(like 24") and put that bitch on there and he kept hitting it with a sledge hammer with short real quick hits. Eventually it will come off.

although everyone is assuming, I'd like to point out, leave the belt on. it'll add extra resistance when striking the wrench with the BFH. I usually use a pipe wrench

i put a small bolt or screw in the holes that are in the pully and use a big screw driver and put it between the screw and the nut and then use the a big cresent to spin the nut off..

Use a strap wrench over the pulley to hold back. Very easy.
