Default Need help with my RST

hey guys, I am in need of some help for my 06 RST. I want more power and I am just learning bout all the things i can do so far. Right now I have my mind set on putting a turbo on the 4.8 with a ls6 cam. I wanna keep it manual so my plans are a t 56 magnum. Out back a posi unit with some 4.88 gears. If you guys can fill me in on the things im missing I would greatly appreciate it so I can start spending and planning.

I would imagine. That is way to much gear for a 6 speed and also for a turbo.

that sounds like a pretty decent plan. the 4.8s have proven to really like boost - especially from the right turbo setup & the LS6 cam has been used plenty of times on turbo trucks with good results & being pretty mild with excellent street manners. i'd go with a truetrac diff - excellent performance & no clutches + you can get a killer deal from some vendors here.

i was thinking along these lines a while back but gave up when i found out all the ridiculous fab work needed to use a T56 with a transfer case

not really when you compare the gearing between the NV3500 & a T56 (depending on which model he gets). using 4.88 and a GTO transmission (RPO M12) is almost exactly the same as a NV3500 with 3.73s - which is a great combo.

and if you need to hold off on the trans swap for a bit, there ain't no worries with the stock 5-speed it'll hold just fine - don't let the jealous 4L60 guys get you down

do y'all know the gearing sets of a T56 or even the NV3500 for that matter? 4.11/4.10s with a T56 would be more of a dog than a 4L60 with 3.42s

i'd do 4.56s at a minimum with 4.88s being my preference in a 10bolt rear.

for them who won't do a search on their own:
MM6 T56 (94-02 F-body)
  1. 2.66
  2. 1.78
  3. 1.30
  4. 1.00
  5. 0.74
  6. 0.50
M12 T56 (GTO)
  1. 2.97
  2. 2.07
  3. 1.43
  4. 1.00
  5. 0.84
  6. 0.57
NV3500
  1. 4.02
  2. 2.32
  3. 1.40
  4. 1.00
  5. 0.73
4L60E
  1. 3.06
  2. 1.63
  3. 1.00
  4. 0.70

i cant remember his username but there is someone from NYC area that did a turbo build with a t-56 and 4.88's and would outrun a supercharged silvy SS all day.

I don’t have a clue as to what one would cost, as I’ve never even seen a price listed, yet I suppose for someone with deep enough pockets, Rockland Standard Gear is making available a Tremec T56 6 speed transmission for 4 wheel drive pickup trucks.

According to them: These units will have transmission ratios of 2.97 1st, 2.06 2nd, 1.43 3rd, 1-1 4th, 0.80 5th, 0.62 6th, for great performance and gas saving highway use. All gear train is Corvette T56 with triple cone 1-2 synchronizers and double cone 3-4-5/6 synchronizers with carbon fiber synchro rings throughout.

These units will accept Chevy, Ford and Dodge transfer cases with 5 and 6 bolt flanges. Available with 27 or 32 spline out put shafts.

Measurements- 27.5" from back of block to back of rear adaptor (1/2") longer than GM or Dodge 3500 trans) 19" from back of block to shifter (2") longer than GM or Dodge 3500 trans.

thanks so far guys. ive put plenty of thought on deciding whether to go auto or stay manual and manual is just too funn. a fully built 4l80 or 4l65 would probable cost me bout the same as the t56. I know some fellas that have t 56's on their rides with 4.88's and they say it's the best damn combo only thing is they have h.c.i no boost..
