Why can't we just call them what they are? This OOBS/OBS/NBS/NNBS designation is driving me crazy. What are we gonna call the next generation, NNNBS? The official designations are not that hard to remember.
Any Body style before 1988 would have to be refered to by years such as 60-66, 67-72 or 73-87. Or we could refer to them by Generation, ie Gen 1, Gen 2, Gen 3, etc. Since 1988, all GM platforms have had a numbered designation, Trucks are as follows:
GMT400 (Gen 4)
The GMT 400 1988-1998 full-size pickup truck platform.
The GMT 410, GMT 420, GMT 425, and GMT 430 were used for full-size SUVs derived from this body style. This was the first GMT designation for the C (RWD) and K (4WD/AWD) full-size trucks and SUV's.
GMT800 (Gen 5)
The GMT 800 and similar GMT 880 is the basis for the 1999-2007 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size pickup trucks. The derived GMT 820 and GMT 830 is used in the Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon, Escalade, among other full-size SUVs. This is the successor to the GMT 400 series of C/K pickups and SUV's.
GMT 900 (Gen 6)
The GMT 900 is the basis for the current 2006+ GM SUV's and 2007+ Fullsize Trucks (Silverado, Sierra.) This platform is replacement for the GMT 800's.
This is my official petition to change our way of referencing our trucks. Until now, it's been OK, but the longer this goes on and the more platforms are changed, the more confusing it will become. Anyone else feel the same or have comments? The F-body and Vette guys have figured out a good system, why can't we? It's just starting to sound dumb to me.

SO what year model is my gen 5. What TB does it have.
I think there are too many details that fall within.
Obviosly a lot of differences in the 99 trucks versus the 07. besides the body styling.....

I think the GMT 400/800/900 designations are the best myself. That's the designation the General himself gave them. I'm just trying to start some discussion and maybe make things less confusing in the future.

just say what freakin year your truck is......... thats more simple..... those who know what category it falls in, then in turn, know that their truck is the same or not....... if u dont know, then you should find out, lol

Every body knows what category their own truck falls in, what I'm talking about is for those who post threads titled, "Will a NBS ........" or "Saw a NNBS ........" There is a better way to describe this.

I don't care either way.
but the OBS/NBS/NNBS I figured would just shift as time went on.
The current NBS will become OBS, the NNBS will become the NBS, and the NNBS will be the next one out.
they are just abbreviations anyway to describe which new body style you have. So it only makes sense that they shift over.
