metal in the oil..?

Default metal in the oil..?

so i changed my oil today and noticed a lot of small metal shavings. i held the flash light at the filter and tiped it over and thats all it was was metal shavings, if any one knows what would cause this? and how serious this is ? thanks

It has about 10 thousand miles on it. This is the first time ive noticed it

Yea I have put 10 thousand miles on it and I always change oil every 2500 miles and this is the first time metal shavings have been in it but there was a lot

If it is magnetic, it is probably a cam lobe. If it is a cam lobe, that is very serious. That is because it is hardened steel, and circulating through the oil it is a very effective abrasive.

If it is bearing material, that is less damaging to the rest of the engine.

I don't see how it could be a cam lobe bc it only has 10 miles on it and I'm good on changing the oil it does have 130k miles on the rest of the engine so I'm thinking maybe bearing material
