THAT is the main reason I don't ride my bike as much as I'd like to.....the vibration between 3500-5000rpm is enough to drive you crazy, I've tried EVERYTHING I can to fix it but it's just a Harley v-twin trait, if I could figure out how to put the balance-shafted, water-cooled V-Rod motor into my Buell I'd NEVER complain about the thing again !!!

When Harley designed the Evo platform, they at first had a reliable, smooth, powerful V-Twin- which had a slightly different exhaust note than traditional (pan, knuckle) Harley motors. The most noticeable change was in the V-angle.
Their focus groups told them that the sound was without doubt the most important aspect of the bike...and that was that.
The V-Rod engine is not really a Harley engine. It was originally designed for use in AMA Superbike racing in the early 1990's. Most of the early design work was carried out by a European supercar manufacturer. Once the basic design was achieved, developement was turned over to Gemini Group in Milwaukee, Wi. Only after the Harley superbike program failed did the engine find a home in the V-Rod_________regardless of what the Discovery channel says.

Discovery was trying to make Harley look like they were actually involved in the design and developement- they were not. In their production line bikes, more than 80% is japanese. In their Superbike program, almost nothing was done in house, except write checks.
