I read somewhere before that you can stop the dinging when the door is open. Where is the speaker for that so I can disconnect it or is there something else I can do?

I do this by removing the key from the ignition switch

That "little speaker" is located on a circuit board under the dash, below the steering wheel, inside a plastic box along with other stuff. I've looked at it and gave up trying to figure out how to disable it. They aren't like they used to be, not a simple disconnect. It's a little round "piezo" type that you may be able to yank off or desolder, I didn't wanna try it.

You can muffle with insulation.

On 03's and up, it comes through the radio. You can replace the radio and that will cure it. That cures it permanantly though, it won't ding AT ALL, not even if you run out of gas or any other ding alarms.

Yeah, in the 03+'s the dinger goes through the stereo system.

It's the most ****ing annoying thing in the world. Even more annoying than those VEHIX commercials.

I usually start the truck before I get in. The whole thing goes like this:

I put the key in the ignition: BING... BING... BING... (until)

I start the motor. For no reason at all: BING.. BING.. BING..

I sit down, shut the door, and don't get my seat-belt on in time: BING... BING... BING...

I shut off the motor and go to get out of the truck: BING... BING...

It's not like it's quiet either. It'd damn loud, and I'm on the "normal" volume level with this thing. The loud one will make your ears bleed.

I love how it scares the sh*t outta you when your passenger unbuckles their seatbelt when you're driving. That's cool. I love those three seconds there where I'm thinking I've got mechanical problems with all these bells and whistles going off on the dash.

One of these days I'm going to kick the speaker in and not regret it one bit.

For '03s, if you go to SilveradoSS.com and go to the how-to section (you may have to modify the view to 90 days and older at the bottom of the screen), you'll find a how-to that disables it. All it is is the removal of one of the wires from a plug underneath your dash. The only negative side to this, other than loosing other dings (don't think you loose them all), is the thing that keeps you from locking your keys in you truck while they are in the ignition, is also gone. Trust me on this one, found out the hard way.
