I am liking the idea of Black Bear sending a tool to log with, then tuning based off that.

I also looked into HP Tuners, and the VCM Suite looks good (obviously, alot of people here use it) but I have a question. Right now, I have an 02 5.3L ECSB Z71, and an 03 SSS. What GEN are these blocks? I am guessing GEN III. Also, I will be buying an 07 Tahoe soon, (GEN IV block, I assume) and another LS1. Will the current version of the VCM Suite tune all of these motors, or will I have to buy upgrades, or something like that?

I voted Wheatley just cause I have never heard anything bad about him. I had a tune from Wait4Me and plain and simply, a hand held worked better. Allen Nelson would be the only other mail order I would consider.

If you have more than one ride to tune, and the time/patience to learn then HPT or EFI live is the best investment choice.

My vote is to get a street tune. Mail order tunes are good (had mine retune, see sig.) but there is no substitute for real live tuning.

I feel sorry for guys trying to decide on a tuner. If that's the route you wanna take, you have a lot of reasons to go with one or the other. And alot of reasons not to.

In customer service, there are always going to be unhappy people. You can't please them all. What your looking for IMHO is some one who has a rep for being VER VERY VERY knowledgable in not just tuning but the whole mechanics of it all. Look at how much you want to be supported. DO you plan to do a lot of mods in the future? Needing upgrades to your tune along the way? Want to put in a cam? Ask a tuner how and just what they plan to change for that cam. Not saying I know, but your aswers will suprise you. I am not picking one, I am friends (internet friends lol) with most of them. Allen has a SHOP and installs what he tunes as well. BlackBear is very knowledgable of engine mechanics, calcs and teaches tuning classes for christs sakes. LOL. Wheatley is a great guy and has kick *** customer service. I have only heard good things about him. Wait4Me is actually a very knowledgable tuner and hell, he can edit the damn tuning software. But has high compliant counts.

You'll find the ones with larger customer bases have larger complaints. Just business sometimes. Obviously you need to look at the complaints and judge for yourself, but I just want to throw my opinion out there that there's more to these tuners than their complaint department. AGAIN, complaints matter, but judge carefully and take your time.

One last thing, if you do plan to make this horrible hobby of modding your new thing. Tuning is actually fun. Investigate doing yourself as well. (as already mentioned)

what does the VCM Suitte go for? I know I can get it from HP tuners, but is it cheaper from another vendor?
