Default ly6 and lq4 differance?

I have a chance to buy a 09 6.0 ly6 shortblock with 9000 miles on it. I have a 06 lq4 in my truck now and I thought about buying it to build another motor but I don't know the differences in them would I run into issues trying to use it? Is the reluctor wheel the same?

no, the ly6 is the gen 4, and lq4 is the gen 3.....cam sensor is now on the front cover, reluctor is 58, not 24, and the knock sensors are on the outside of the block, not in the valley cover.

depends. If the ly6 is in your area, and priced good, it might be cheaper in the long run. Say you end up having to drive 100+ miles to pick up a lq4 that is a couple hundred bucks cheaper. The money needed to run the gen IV might end up being a wash.

Here is a good article comparing the GEN III and GEN IV engines.

http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/te...son/index.html

the GEN 4 LY6 is pretty much GEN 3 LQ4/9 with the L92 heads bolted on. Of course coupled with all the other GEN 3 to GEN 4 changes.
LQ4=300hp
LY6=352hp

I'll check the article out. I believe I am on the just going to pass on the LY6 its about 60 miles from me and he is asking 500 for it, which still isn't bad. So if anyone else wants it look in the Birmingham, AL craigslist he has it listed as an lq4 but when I talk to him he said it was out of an 09 truck
