I was shopping around for a 180* stat and found some posts that were selling LS1 Camaro & Firebird stats, they claim they were OEM 172* stats!? Is that true? They were a couple of old posts from different sites that came up when I did a search for the stat. Do LS1 stats fit on the new truck engines and would the ECM be OK without being retuned (like with a HPP and the 160* stat setting)? I had a 160* stat which I felt was to cold and used alot of gas and the 195* is to hot, I think 180* would be a good compromise. When I had my 95 truck, the ECM was fine with a 180* stat.

I believe it seems to be true. 12571261 I think it the OE part number. It comes up on GM Parts Direct's site as "Engine Coolant Pump Inlet"
It is a 172* thermostat as listed by many different people.
I did source me a used 180* thermo and hopefully I will get that otherwise I will be going with the 172* LS1 thermo. I think that extra 12* should help the engine cool more efficiently over the 160*
ALSO...the stock truck thermo is 12558852...
