ls1edit duplication?

I have a pretty extensive electronics background and have spent 6 months trying to figure out how to make another cable, I have come to the conclusion that IT CAN'T BE DONE with the limited information available to the public about the interface box internals.....besides, if I DID have a $500 functional cable with a factory seal on it I damn sure wouldn't let one of my friends take it apart to see how it worked !!...I had a broken one with the internals exposed, the knowledge to be able to build one, and I STILL couldn't duplicate it !!
I do think the interface box probably IS based on the ELM Chip (or a variation of that IC) because as far as I know that is the ONLY interface chip that will both read and write simultaneously both baud rates used by the VPW communications protocol. if someone had an extensive software background and the ability to reverse engineer the software in question they MIGHT be able to rewrite the LS1Edit software to communicate correctly using the LVD100P1 interface box that is available from www.vehicleinterface.com ....(and not to burst your bubble but) that box WILL NOT work with either LS1Edit or Autotap as it is delivered.....those software packages are written to access special individual addresses within the comm chip inself, and those addresses are not enabled in that or ANY OTHER* interface box except the ones that you buy with those software packages...sorry
THERE ARE other software packages out there besides LS1Edit that will allow reading and writing of the PCM....in fact there is a DOS package that can do it VERY well, but ALL those programs give you is a gigantic almost unuseable hexidecimal file (I say almost because if you were diligient enough to convert the hex to ASCII and deciper all of the PIDs you COULD theoretically alter the PCM programming to your needs). There REALLY IS a reason that LS1Edit costs so much.....Carputing has put ALOT of time and research into the software to make it as functional and user freindly as it is, also...there is no real competition so they can pretty much charge what they please (a full unlocked commercial version with all modules costs $24,000 !!!...so DON'T bitch about $500)
Sorry for the novel here......I have just done ALOT of research on this subject and duplication of the LS1Edit cable isn't as easy as it seems
*There IS an aftermarket interface box that WILL work with Autotap however...but it took me 4 months of research to figure it out and I'M NOT TELLING WHAT IT IS , if you want to know it THAT bad...DO THE RESEARCH YOURSELF !!!, besides, that interface box is 100% useless unless you already OWN a legal copy of Autotap!!, The reason for this is: You need a valid serial number (which you get from B&B Electronics when you purchase Autotap) to make the software work....AND....if you've purchased a legal copy of Autotap and have a serial number you ALREADY have a functional cable!!!!....so WHY would you need another ???
