Default LS1 Swap

I'm thinking about droping a stock LS1 in a Silverado/Sierra (4x4). Does it matter which MY I choose? Also, what do I need to know to complete this swap sucessfully? Anybody do a write-up on the web?

Those of you who have done this swap already, would you do anything diffrerently if you were to do it over again?

The only thing you can't use will be the LS1 oil pan. How complete is the motor (block & heads or complete from pan to wiring)?
If you have just the block and heads, then everything off the truck will swap right over onto the LS1.
If you want to use the LS1 intake, then you must keep the LS1 accessory brackets, water pump, etc.

If I were to do it again, I'd throw in a bigger cam!

Kinda pointless swap though...IMO You can make the 5.3 just as fast only the 5.3 is 10 times stonger and can handle alot more power with your weight of the vehicle!!! If I were you and I wanted to make some serious power then I'd stick with the Iron block.

Zick- Why won't the camero pan fit in the truck! I thought it was the corvette LS1 pan that didn't fit!!?? Just wondering, have you already tried it or are you giving and educated guess of some sort!!??

This is what I was told from people who have tried it before, they said there is a clearence problem with the crossmember or axle in the front can't remember exactly. The F-body pan is deeper in the front vs the trucks pan.
I sold my LS1 pan for a good price before I bothered trying.

Damnit!! I just had my motor built and it has that oil pan on it!! I hope they tried the corvette one and not the camero pan. Thats going to suck if I need to switch, but I guess it's not big deal since I have the truck oil pan on the 5.3 thats in there now!! Oh well we'll see I guess. Thanks sorry whoring your thread VicousVette

I think the LS1 swap is great. Its 60 lbs lighter than the 6l, and plenty strong. Vicred has a LS1 in his truck, and its very strong. I cant keep up with him with me on DR's and him on 20's. I have a 6.0 similar cams, both have 3000 stall. Im 4wd, hes 2wd, but he's still 4/10's faster.

I'm not sure the corvette pan would work either. It seems the wings would get in the way of things.
But if it works cool, then you can say you proved other people wrong.

If not, then just swap over the windage tray, oil pickup tube, pan and call it a day.

Yeah i hear ya but you dont think the 500lb difference b/n you being 4wd and him being 2wd is what really makes the 4/10's!??

And I was speaking of the over all max power. Not just the immediate swap difference!! If he wants to get a quick 30hp jump then thats cool, but if his goal is to take it too the limits then that aluminum block will give way before the iron block will
