Default lq4 swap

Hey guys. My buddy just did an lq4 swap in his 2004 RST and it turned out awesome. We just finished installing an lsa cam too and it's a lot more motivated than the cam'd 4.8 that came out. That pushed me over the decision line towards the 6.0 direction and I started pricing some motors. Seems high, but is $1200 too much for a 130k+ mile lq4? He got a steal on his with 80k miles. My stock 5.3 has 156k and runs SO DAMN SMOOTH so high-mileage lsx motors don't scare me, I just don't want to grossly overpay. Any advice on where to find cheaper running 6.0's? Thanks for any help.
-Josh

Keep an eye in the classifieds for local engines, I sold two last week....one for $450 and the other for $700

I regret selling the $700 6.0 now, the member that bought it took it apart in the bed of my truck to inspect before handing over the $ and it looked like it had under 20K on the engine.

I wouldn't pay over $800 for a long block with that many miles. In '09 I paid $1200 for a LQ9 long block with ~65K miles. Or at least thats what they said.

Keep looking, don't be in a hurry. As tax season approaches, you will find some good deals out there. Don't bother with the parts yards. When they have something like that, they think its worth way more than what it is. Either b/c they are stupid, or think you are. Keep looking on the classified on the boards.

Will-do, thanks for the insight. I may even cam the ol' 5.3 with a 218/220 112lsa.

How easy is the swap? My 5.3 in my 99 Z71 has over 200k on it. Still runs good but its getting tired.

depends on where you live. in upstate ny i just bought a 90k lq4 for $1050 . but if your from texas your issued a silverado at birth so they're a lot cheaper. last super low mile one i got cost me 1600 with the controller and harness. keep snoopin and you'll do ok.
