Default Lowering a 4x4

Anyone ever lower their Chevy 4x4? I know Bell Tech makes 3/4 lowering kits for Chevy's, but the question is how does it look and what to look out for? Ride quality, parts that will break first, ect......

I was going for a street sleeper AWD truck with a supercharger to scare the wickeds out of some young punks around town! Ain't nothing like Smoke'n all 4 wheels off the line in a LOWER'D TRUCK?

I never ownded a 4x4. but i have owned a 90' sliverado and a 98 S10.

thoughts.... comments....?

i lowered mine 1 1/2 in the front and 3" in the rear. it was easy and cheap and rides fine although i am sure i need an alignment.

the 1/2 in the front was by just turning back the tortion bar adjuster and triming the bump stop.

the 3" in the rear was 1" with shackels and 2" by removing the factory lift blocks. total cost under $100.

i would think going 3" in the front is going to make for an ocasional hard botoming

They look great lowered a bit And the supercharger is great fun. You should study the Silverado SS, as it sounds like it is pretty close to what you want. Copying the way it is lowed, torsion bar type, leaf springs and shocks, should yeild an great ride. Firm, but comfortable.

I'm not looking to spend the kinda cash on a brand new truck. Besides, people are gonna know it's not a sleeper if i buy a brand new SS. I was hoping to find a mid 90's Silverado, or GMC, SLE. I was looking more at used and rebuild to what i want.

I may Copy what the SS has to offer....

GOOD INFO though !!!!! keep it coming

I forgot to ask.. What kind of Gear ratio's are folks running?

Parish8,
I was looking at your "www" link and saw that high 11 second run. give me the low down. I don't think i want to run 11.s but i would like to brake into the 13's. Are Mid 94'-98' 5.7lt Gm's capable of turning those times with a 4x4.

I would think that they would be able with a set of good flowing heads and a matching camshaft.

Molded in rollpan/ Street Scene mirrors an a nice stereo system,
has a dent in tailgate but rest of the body is in good condition.
