Default looking to replace truck motor

96 gmc 4x4 z71 ext cab. i have the 5.7 right now and i need to change it to something without manifold problems.

i was told the 6.0 would be a good option but where would i buy one? where can i have the work done? should i choose a better engine? im on the AR OK border.

Actually the problem is that the dexcool antifreeze, when left in too long, eats the silicone seals off of the intake gaskets. IMO you'd be better off with a GM crate engine maybe a 383 or something similar if you want more power. Of course if you want a 6 liter buy a pullout from a junkyard or e-bay. www.car-part.com is a place to get an idea of engine prices.

Swapping in a 6.0 would be cool, but a non-trivial task to say the least. Even if you find a used one in decent shape for cheap, you will have to get new motor mounts, PCM, fuel syste, etc. to support the Gen III motor.

Like Bowtie said, you could get a 383 SBC cate engine as a direct replacement and have an easier time of it.
