Question Life Expectancy of Fuel Pump f/ Olds Alero

I know that this is a V8 site but I was wondering if anybody could give me an answer to this. I had to have the fuel pump replaced on my wife's Oldsmobile Alero yesterday and the car only has 57,xxx miles on it. I thought that this was kind of early for it to go out but then again I really don't know how long they last. The guy made the comment that bad gas might have been the cause but my wife and I usually put Mobile or Exxon gas in our vehicles so I don't know how true that is. Could someone help me out and tell me how long these things should last and what would make them go out? Thanks!

How often do you change the fuel filter? They should last 100K.

I haven't had the fuel filter changed in a while on the car, so to answer your question, not often.

I change mine every 15kmi just because of all the pumps that I see go bad at our dealership caused by plugged filters.

I probably need to have that done since I can't even remember the last time it was changed. Thanks FLATOP08!

Are you talking about the fuel filter in-line or the fuel strainer on the pump in the tank?

Change the inline filter. Your car was a little early but not that uncommon.

How does the in-line filter which is after the pump keep debris from getting into the pump? I must be confused

LS1NOVA, do you happen to know of any good info sites for the Alero? That is also nice to know that it isn't uncommon for the fuel pump to go out. Also, where is the inline filter located?
