Lets end the weight misconception

...I really think a lot of you are missing the point of this thread. I don't care to know how much you love trucks, or if you even care how heavy it is. That's great, but I really want to know why some scales are reading way high and some way low and are both supposedly "Certified". How are they certified? For what weights are they certified? Is using a scale that is certified to weigh 80,000 lb semi trucks accurate with a 4-5,000 lb truck?
And 10-15 little things that weigh 5 to 10 lbs a peice can still only be 150lbs max, so I'm not buying the "add up all the little things" theory. ...

Well, why not start out the thread by sayin that?

That said, did u ever think to ask how they're cert'ed at track? Or wherever else u weigh in at? Who'd know better than the people that use em everyday? How's that?

Funny u say that. Ever time I've been to the track, it's during the week. And I don't go that often. Only time scales are open is on w/e.

If I went at all during weekend, scales were down the 1 time I went on a Sat.
Guess what, on APR. 7th for T-n-T, I'm goin. It's a Wed.
Test-n-Tune is cool, cause I'm not the fast...yet.
When I weighed mine, I went to a scrapyard, cause I wanted to know what my Snugtop would weigh. Salesman/ owner claims he's weighed em, sticks by 110#.
So I'll weigh again at the same scale. Weighing at different scales may create variance like different dynos.

Even tho I said I'll weigh at that scrapyard for the before & after picture of what my tonneau truly weighs to minimize variance, I eventually plan on using scale at track. I also try to have same amt. of gas too.
I'm thinkin 4700 +/- 100# w/. 1/4 gas, tonneau & me (190). As she sits.
I DD my truck so tonneau is a true reflection of it's weight. I thought of running w/o it next week, but maybe it'd be good to have the weight in back. Now if I could just get 100-300# outta tha front for better wtg. distribution.
I eventually have a few wtg. reduction ideas for truck.

To answer oochevyscotts question, cat scales are generally accurate +- .01%. They can get thrown off requiring maintenance by drivers sliding their trailer tandems and other bs on them, but usually when that is done the scales have on board diagnostics that sense a problem and automatically send a report to CAT for a work order and technician. We have tested the scales at the TA shop that I managed a few years ago many times and even with just 200-350lbs on them they are pretty damn accurate.
Also, I have one of those trucks that are "unusually" heavy I guess but not by that much. 5180lbs with me (260lbs) removed tailgate, removed spare tire and winch, removed speakers and box, half tank of fuel, spray in bedliner, exhuast removed from the y back, c notch, 20's up front, 16in stocker aluminums and 28x10 hoosiers in the rear. So if I put some of the stuff back before racing it could easily gain 300-400lbs and its a 2005 2wd ext cab sb, loaded w/bose/onstar/sunroof/leather/power and heated everything.
